What you will learn about me is that I will have a story behind every custom. Even as an O.G. sneakerhead, I always had a story behind every pair of shoes purchased inside of my collection, it’s just a part of the passion. This design was a special one for one of my cousin’s. I’m always shocked when I notice someone is paying attention, because as an artist, I first do it for myself, and to have anyone pay attention and want to be welcomed into my world is a blessing. When I found out that my little cousin loves shoes like I do, she asked about a custom pair, so I was like of course. The hard part as always is when someone tells me, “do whatever,” “freestyle,” etc., it’s just hard, I need somewhere to start, but it’s also much appreciated that anyone would want to be surprised by the ideas that I have in mind.
Well, my cousin wanted to make sure that she had these to go to school on her birthday, and when I finished, I told her that I would bring them too her. I live in New Orleans, LA, and she lives in Baton Rouge, LA. It just so happened that there was a really big storm that had came, and it wasn’t letting up. Well, I know how it feels for someone to make a promise and not come through, and I definitely didn’t want to flake on her. So, as I was about to leave Mi TWiN said “she’ll get the shoes another day, the weather is just too bad.” Yes, I understood that, but it was her birthday, and I needed to get them too her. No one really believed that I would do it, and I was like I’m not going to speed or anything, I just need to make it there. After much back and fourth, prayers of safety, and some hard stares, we made it there and back safely. I live for priceless excitement, and priceless moments, and in that moment, my smile was all about coming through when no one expected me too. Some make excuses, and others make impossible look like I’m Possible – and that goes for anyone supporting ONE in Emilien making an ORDER.
These started off as all white low top g-nikes (Air Force 1s). I decided on playfulness that reminded me of children’s stores. I had some vinyl, and I said that this should be a fun experimental idea by randomly adding them to the shoe. So i cut out little stars of the different colors of vinyl that I had, and fell in love with the concept, so I’ll definitely be doing that again. There are also spikes in ever hole of the toebox of the shoe (detailed pictures will be added at another time), and I put some really short ones in because I wouldn’t want them to be considered a “hazard” of any sort at school. I painted the Air on the midsole, the Nike Swoosh, the eyelet slots, and the section surrounding the toebox a silver tone just to make the colors pop but still stand out. Of course, if you follow me in any way, I love Love LOVE a white toebox to highlight everything else going on with a shoe. The tongue looked just like the area around the Nike Swoosh. These were fun, something to stand out for her birthday, and for your birthday, I’m ready when you are to place your ORDER.
